Jack Calmin Loew, 89, of Glen, NH and Puerto Morelos, QR, Mexico, passed away on August 8, 2025.
Born on May 13, 1936 in Mineola, NY, Jack was the son of the late Arthur Loew and Norma Rae (Levinson) Loew. He was raised in Garden City, NY.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Chew Loew of Glen, NH and Puerto Morelos; daughter Jill Loew of Guilderland, NY; daughter Jackie Baumgartner (Jay) of Rabun Gap, GA; daughter Janice Loew of New York, NY; and stepson Jonathan Clymer (Cheryl) of Pottersville, NJ.
Jack earned a degree from Springfield College, majoring in physical education. He was a proud member of the 1957 Springfield College national collegiate soccer championship team.
After graduation, Jack began a career teaching math and science in the Long Island North Shore school district. He became an official for lacrosse, football, and soccer in the early 1960s and was the Nassau County Lacrosse Officials Association “Man of the Year” in 1988.
In 1988, Jack and Jean established Villas Shanti, a yoga workshop retreat in Puerto Morelos. Since its inception, Villas Shanti has been a popular destination for yoga enthusiasts from around the world.
Jack’s greatest joys included traveling the world with is beloved wife, watching old movies, playing cards and joking with his children, reciting obscure facts from long-ago sporting events and telling his famous stories. He was also a lifelong New York Football Giants and St. Louis Cardinals fan. One would know when Jack was especially happy because he would spontaneously burst into song.
A celebration of life will he held in Puerto Morelos at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack’s name to the American Heart Association.
