Jacob "Jake" Aaron Owen, 31, of Alba, Texas, passed away on October 22, 2025, in Dallas, Texas, after courageously battling Chronic Myeloid Leukemia since being diagnosed at the age of 15. Though Jake's journey with illness began early in life, Jake faced every challenge with strength, humor, and an unwavering love for life.
Born on July 28, 1994, in Garland, Texas, Jake was the son of Perry Steven Owen and Kari Colleene (Aultman) Hibdon. Jake grew up in Royse City, Texas, alongside his brother, Joshua. The passing of Perry in 2010 was a loss felt deeply by Jake and his entire family, and Perry's memory remained a constant presence throughout Jake's life. In time, Kari remarried, and Jake was fortunate to gain a loving stepdad, Kevin Hibdon, who became an important part of Jake's life.
Jake graduated from Royse City High School in 2012 and went on to build a solid career as a gas pipeline operator with Superior Pipeline Services. Known for his work ethic and easygoing personality, Jake quickly earned the respect and friendship of his coworkers.
He loved baseball and softball and was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys. Fantasy football was another of his hobbies, as was heading to the casino for a little bit of fun. At home, he enjoyed simple pleasures such as sitting around the bonfire, grilling out, and spending time with the people he loved most. Jake also had a soft spot for his loyal Australian Shepherd, Lady, who was always by his side.
Jake's love story with his longtime girlfriend, Cynthia Gonzalez, was one that his friends and family admired. The two met through mutual friends and family members when they were only 19 years old. Jake's pick-up line to Cynthia was a simple, "Do you want ice cream?" as he shimmied his way to sit next to her at a get-together. This line, against all odds, would lead to them sharing 12 beautiful years together. Jake affectionately called Cynthia his "ride or die," and the two shared a bond built on humor, friendship and deep love.
Jake had a big appetite for life - and for eating. He especially loved Mexican and Cajun food, and his go-to snack was beef jerky. He found joy in the little things: good music, good food, cold beer, and great company. Those who knew him best will forever remember his laugh, his energy, and the way he lived every day on his own terms. Though gone too soon, Jake's vibrant spirit will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him.
Jake was preceded in death by his father, Perry Owen; his paternal grandparents, Danny and RayeDale Owen; and his aunt, Eva Owen.
He is survived by his mother, Kari Hibdon, and stepdad, Kevin Hibdon; his brother, Josh Owen; his stepsister, Kailee Hamman and husband Chris; and his longtime girlfriend, Cynthia Gonzalez. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Gary and Mary Aultman; his niece, Harper Hamman; nephew, Cole Hamman; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Jake's family originally created a GoFundMe page to help with his medical expenses during his brave fight with leukemia. Since his passing, the page has become a space for friends and loved ones to come together in support.
