In the early morning hours of Tuesday December 4, 2024, Jacqueline T. Duval, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and colleague passed away.
We celebrate and honor the remarkable life of Jacqueline T. Duval. Her love, strength and legacy will continue to touch the hearts and lives she touched forever.
Jacqueline was born in 1937 in Petionville, Haiti, the oldest daughter of Max and Catherine and sister to both Marie Jose and Pierre. In 1962 Jacqueline graduated from Faculté de Médecine et de Pharmacie at the Université D'État D'Haiti medical school from which she embarked on a path that led to her becoming a highly respected, talented and compassionate physician specializing in anesthesia.
In 1965, Jacqueline left Haiti and moved to Quebec Canada where she completed her internship, at Sherbrooke Hospital before moving to the United States and completing her residency in anesthesiology at Georgetown University.
After working at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, she moved to New York where Jacqueline spent over 32 years at Lincoln Medical Center in the Bronx. She was among the original staff of the newly completed hospital in 1975, and rose to be Deputy Director of the Department of Anesthesiology from 1986 until her retirement in 2007.
Jacqueline was more than a physician-she was a loving and devoted mother to her two children, Philip and Joelle, to her two grandchildren Taylor and Morgan and to her granddogs Baxter, Auggie, and Sophie. She gave them not only her unconditional love and support but also the example of hard work, dedication, and kindness that shaped and continues to inspire their lives. As a mother, she provided guidance, support and encouragement that will be carried forever as a guiding light to her children and grandchildren.
Jacqueline's life was a testament to the power of service, love, kindness and dedication. Having contributed to countless lives as a physician, she leaves behind a world that is better for having had her in it. Jacqueline was an extraordinary woman whose legacy will continue to inspire us. She embodied the best of what it means to be a mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and healer.
Her family and friends will continue to honor her memory by living with the same grace, compassion, and strength that she so effortlessly embodied. Rest in Peace Mom. You will always be in our hearts, and your strength and legacy will continue to inspire us for always. Thank you for such kindness Mom. We love you.
Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday December 14th 2024, 9:45 am at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 6000 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx NY. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Hawthorne, New York.
In lieu of flowers, kindly send donations to Hope for Haiti or Doctors Without Borders.
"Nothing you love is lost. Not really.
Things, people - they always go away, sooner or later.
You can't hold them, any more than you can hold moonlight.
But if they've touched you, if they're inside you, then they're still yours. The only things you ever really have are the ones you hold inside your heart."
