James M. Androstic Sr., 84, of Derry, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024, he and his wife's 61st wedding anniversary, surrounded by his family at Loyalhanna Care Center.
Born July 16, 1939 in Latrobe, he was the son of the late Mike J. Androstic and Catherine M. (Dropchak) Androstic.
Jim was a member of St. Rose Church, Latrobe. He was a 1958 graduate of Derry Area High School and was awarded the Keystone Degree of Future Farmers of America in Harrisburg. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed at Latrobe Steel Co. for 37 years and was a member of the United Steelworkers of America Local 1537. Jim started farming at the age of four and was a life long farmer. He was an extremely hard worker running his farm and working at the steel mill. He loved the farm, having Patty by his side and teaching his children and grandchildren how to maintain, fix or build anything. He found great joy in helping anyone in need. Jim loved celebrating with family and friends and had a great zest for life!
Jim is survived by his true love and best friend of 61 years, his wife, Patricia L. (Reeping) Androstic of Derry; his three children, Janice Wisneski, and her husband Jerome (Jerry) Jr., of Derry, Sharon Ament and her fiancé Fred, of Derry, and James M. Androstic Jr., and his wife Melonie, of Scottdale, PA; nine grandchildren, Lyndsey Desko (Jake), Michael Ament (Ashley), Jerome (Jay) Wisneski III (Alexandra), James Androstic III (Justin), Mark Ament, Zachary Wisneski (Rachel), Lauren James (David), Marissa Phillippi, (Micky), and Leah Androstic; seven great-grandchildren, Anslee, Ayla, Westin, Myla, Sloan, Kaeden and Maevlyn; two sisters, Marie Ream, and her husband Cloyd, of Greensburg, Evelyn Friedline, and her husband Gary of New Alexandria and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was loved very much and will be deeply missed.
There will be no public visitations. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass at 11 AM on Wednesday at St. Rose Church, Latrobe, with the Rev. Ron Maquinana as celebrant.
