Four Oaks, NCFour Oaks, NC: Mr. James Edward Barefoot, age 84, of South Baker Street passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Funeral Services honoring his life will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Bethel Original Free Will Baptist Church in Four Oaks. The Rev. Billy Nowell will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 PM to12:45 PM at the church. Burial will follow at the Four Oaks City Cemetery in Four Oaks.

Mr. Barefoot was born on October 3, 1940, in Johnston County to the late Roland Edward Barefoot and Gladys Wood Barefoot. James lived a life of love and grace and embodied the values of humility, kindness, and dedication. He enjoyed his work as a computer programmer for the NCDOT, but he was first, and always, a devoted husband and father.  Known for his gentle nature and unwavering selflessness, James's heart was devoted to service, particularly to the orphans at the Free Will Baptist Children’s Home in Middlesex, NC. He was a kind, humble man who put others’ needs before his own, and he was deeply cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

James leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion through his beloved wife of nearly 58 years and sweetheart for almost 65 years, Brenda Kaye Stanley Barefoot; his children, Stanley Bert Barefoot and wife Audrey, and Martha Rose Vandergriff and husband Tim; and his treasured grandchildren, Tyler Fleischer, Andrew Fleischer, Jacob Fleischer, Noland Bert Barefoot, Silas Vandergriff, and Japheth James Vandergriff. He is also survived by his sister, Janice Medlin, and a host of family and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Free Will Baptist Children’s Home, PO Box 249, Middlesex, NC, 27557, to honor James’s lifelong commitment to caring for others.

The Barefoot family is deeply grateful for your thoughts, prayers, and support during this difficult time.
