James Otis Casey, beloved husband, father, Papa, big brother, and friend, passed away on February 6, 2025, at Methodist Hospital in Nassau Bay, Texas. He was born on December 9, 1949, in Baytown, Texas, to Doris Jane Casey and William Lloyd Casey.
James was a man of deep compassion, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to his family and work. Known for his sharp wit, patience (to a point), and caring nature, he left an unforgettable impact on all who knew him. He lived by his favorite saying, "Hurry up, we are burning daylight," a testament to his dislike for wasting time and his drive to make the most of every moment.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Cathy Ann Casey; daughter Jamie LeAnn Royal husband Robert Duane Royal; son James Otis Casey Jr. and wife Elizabeth Grace Casey; daughter Faith Lynn Casey; son Andrew James Casey; daughter Alaine Jasmine Casey; son Kristopher Cody Casey, sister Brenice Eva Honerkamp Husband Glen Larry Honerkamp, brother William Edwin (Buck) Casey wife Dolores Kay Casey, brother in laws and close friends Bruce Wayne Gale and Dale Eugene Gale, grandchildren Zachary, Hannah, Rachel, Olivia, Jasper, Colton and Hazel, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also his best friend, lapdog and sidekick Bo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris Jane Casey and William Lloyd Casey and wife Debra Ann Casey.
A graduate of Ross S. Sterling High School, James dedicated 33 years of his life as a Senior Operator at Texas Petro Chemical where he was known for his brilliant story telling. Before that, he worked as an electrician at Placid Oil for 15 years, where he earned the nickname "Flash." Beyond his professional career, James served as a volunteer firefighter and first responder for over 25 years, always willing to help those in need.
Outside of work, James found his greatest joy in the outdoors. Whether hunting from the stand or fishing from the boat, he embraced nature wholeheartedly. If he was sitting down, you'd often hear him say, "I bet we can find a game on somewhere." A devoted sports fan, he cheered for the Astros and Texans, and, surprisingly, had a soft spot for LSU. In his younger years, James was a well-known softball pitcher, competing on numerous teams and making lasting friendships in the community.
A memorial service honoring James will be held at Sterling-White Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM and the service following at 11:00 AM.
James lived a life full of love, laughter, and purpose. His legacy of hard work, kindness, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
