James Howard Chandler

James Howard Chandler, age 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 30, 2025. Born on September 23, 1933, in Burns, Tennessee, he was the beloved son of the late Howard and Lurline Chandler. James was a devoted husband to Merrice Anne (Vonalt) Chandler for 58 years, a loving father to Tobin Chandler and Tyson Chandler, and a cherished grandfather to Carissa, Claire, and Lily Chandler. He was the kind father in-law to the late Lisa Chandler and the dear brother of Sharon Kramer and the late Melrose Muir, and leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will deeply mourn his passing.
A proud graduate of Woodward High School (Class of 1952), James continued his education at Michigan State University. He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. Throughout his life, James remained active in his community as a member of the Men's Garden Club, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and as a Master Gardener.
James found joy in life's simple pleasures reading the newspaper, solving crossword puzzles, painting, and crafting intricate pine needle baskets. His gentle spirit, quick wit, and generous heart endeared him to all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Strawser Funeral Home, 9503 Kenwood Road, Blue Ash, Ohio. Family and friends are invited to gather at 1:30 p.m., with the service beginning at 2:00 p.m., to honor and celebrate James's remarkable life. James was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched. The family invites everyone to continue celebrating James's life at MPH Brewing, located at 7880 Remington Road, Montgomery, OH 45242, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
