James J. "Jim" Chorley, a vibrant soul known for his humor and friendliness, passed away on January 10, 2025, in Columbus, Indiana. Born on May 25, 1952, in South Chicago, Illinois, the son of John and Josephine Salvio Chorley.
He was a son, brother, and father. Surviving are his son, Jimmy (Tabitha) Carpenter and two grandchildren of Linton, Indiana; siblings, Judy (Mike) Ypsilantis of Westerville, Ohio, and Dino (Jessica) Moler of Lima, Ohio, who recall his knack for storytelling and his ability to turn any gathering into an entertaining event.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving parents and his brother, John "Jack" Chorley, with whom he now reunites in peace. His former wife, Earla Chorley of Nineveh, Indiana, and his fiancée, Patricia Esteb of Edinburgh, will forever hold dear the memories of his zest for life.
Professionally, Jim was the proud owner and operator of Time Sound Production & Millennium Night Club where he served as a D.J., creating joyous memories for countless individuals through music and entertainment. His work was not just a job but a passion, as he brought people together to celebrate life's milestones.
An avid sports enthusiast, Jim's love for the Indiana University teams, the Chicago White Sox, and the Indianapolis Colts was well-known among his friends and family. He was often found cheering on his favorite teams, and his playful "smack talk" was all part of the fun he had with those he knew best.
Jim's interests extended beyond sports; he was an avid fisherman, often found by the water's edge, basking in the serenity of nature. His love for cooking, especially Italian cuisine, was another way he expressed his creativity and love for life. Friends and family looked forward to his delicious meals, which were always served with a side of laughter and good conversation.
As a staunch supporter of President Trump, he was never shy about sharing his political views. Jim's ability to engage in spirited discussions, while maintaining his friendly demeanor, was one of his most admirable traits.
Jim's legacy is one of joy, friendship, and a life well-lived. His ability to light up a room with his humor and his unwavering friendliness will be deeply missed by his family, including several nieces and nephews, and by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In keeping with the family's request, cremation will take place and a celebration of life gathering will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. There will not be a formal memorial service.
