James Pott Delafield

New London, NH-James Pott Delafield, 95, of Main Street, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006 at Woodcrest Village. He was born in Chappaqua, NY on Jan. 8, 1911 the son of Talmadge P. and Eleanor (Pott) Delafield. After graduating from the University of Virginia in 1932, Mr. Delafield worked for Grand Union and in 1942 was appointed to the office of Price Administration in Washington, DC where he was responsible for procuring and allocating food for the Allied Forces. At the end of the war, he went to work for General Foods and retired in 1966 as President of the International Division. From 1966-1973 Mr. Delafield was Chairman of Francois L. Schwarz, Inc. distributing products to PX's world wide. He lived in Darien, CT before moving to New London, NH in 1970. While in Darien, Mr. Delafield had been President of the Tokeneke Club and was a member of the Wee Burn Country Club as well as the Union League of NY. Mr. Delafield was also a member of the Lake Sunapee Country Club and the Boys Club in New London. He was predeceased by three brothers and one sister and his wife of 62 years, Marina (Batty) Delafield. Members of his surviving family include a son and daughter-in-law, G. Mason and Lisa Delafield of New London, NH; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and William A.G. Boyle OBE of Hamilton, Bermuda; six grandchildren, Graham, Richard and Courtland Boyle, Victoria Powell, Dana Getz and Beau Delafield; 17 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held in Old Main Street Cemetery, New London, NH in the spring.
