James William Eckard

James William "Bill" Eckard, 81, of Bridgewater, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Shenandoah House in Fishersville.
He was born on April 28, 1942 and was a son of the late Isaac and Shirley (Puffenbarger) Eckard.
Bill graduated from Turner Ashby High School, class of 1960. He served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Bill retired from Shenandoah Valley Electric. He was an active member of Beaver Creek Church where he had served as a deacon, on numerous committees and the church board and as an usher. He was a life member of the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department, and a founding member of the Bridgewater Steam and Gas Association. Bill was a truck driving man and was always on the go.
Bill was united in marriage to Bonnie (Miller) Eckard.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his sons, Brad Eckard & wife Theresa and Craig Eckard & wife Tammy; sister, Becky Simmons & husband Joe; four grandchildren, Jared Eckard & wife Kelsey, Will Eckard, Emma Eckard, and Caleb Eckard.
A service celebrating Bill's life will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Beaver Creek Church with Pastors Ryan Cooper and Glen Bollinger officiating. Burial will follow at Beaver Creek Church Cemetery, with military honors by the Myers-Hodge VFW Post #8644 and the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Johnson Funeral & Cremation Service in Bridgewater. The casket will be closed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Beaver Creek Church, Building Fund.
