James D. Evenson

It is with great sadness that the family of James D. Evenson, Sr. announces his passing in Claremore, OK on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at the age of 75.
Born in Fredonia, KS on July 25, 1947, to Delbert and Glenna (Keeler) Evenson, James (known by family and friends as Jim) was raised and educated outside of Fredonia, Kansas and graduated high school from Neodesha High School. Following graduation, Jim attended Independence Community College and then was drafted into the Army. He faithfully served his country, including a tour of service in Vietnam, until he received his honorable discharge in 1969. On October 1st of 1966, in Neodesha, Jim married the love of his life, Lynda LouAnn Sandbothe. Their union was gifted with four children. Jim provided for his family working for JC Pump (Coffeyville, KS), Reda Pump (Bartlesville, OK) for 25 years, and finally for Baker Hughes (Centrilift) until his retirement in 2013.
Referred to by his family as a real outdoor person and a man who would help anyone, Jim was most comfortable on the family farm, first in Tyro, KS and then later in Chelsea. He and wife Lynda enjoyed raising registered Limousin cattle there. Fishing was something that could always put a smile on Jim's face. It worked out nicely that the farm in Chelsea had two nice ponds that allowed him to catch quite a few fish!
When grandchildren came along Jim excelled at being a grandpa just as he had at being a husband and father. Rest assured he taught those grandchildren how to fish. And at the end of the day, Jim could be found in his trusty brown recliner watching his favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs.
A man that has left a legacy that will live on in the lives of his family and friends, Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lynda, children, James Evenson Jr., Patti Faulkner (Darren), Kristi Evenson, and Kim Kirchmer (Jason), grandchildren Darren Faulkner II, Bailey and Aiden Kirchmer, sister, Louise Remy, brothers Robert and Dale Evenson and numerous nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law. James was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside memorial at Fawn Creek Cemetery (Tyro, KS) will be scheduled later to celebrate and remember the life of James D. (Jim) Evenson.
