James Michael Fitzpatrick, 82, of Plantation, FL, passed away on August 1,  2023. He was born on November 28, 1940, in East St. Louis, Illinois. Jim, as he was fondly known, was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Jim attended St. Louis University High School, where he was a member of both the rifle and tennis club, and a graduate of St. Louis University. He pursued his dream of flying by serving in the Air Force as a B-52 Bomber pilot. He later achieved the rank of Captain, serving with National Airlines and Pan Am Airlines. His dedication and skill in the aviation industry were commendable, and his love for flying was unwavering.
When Jim wasn't soaring through the skies, he was tinkering in his garage on a number of building projects. Some memorable projects included a fireplace for the home, heavy wooden lunch boxes for his girls while in elementary school, a dollhouse for his daughter and granddaughter, a wooden rocking horse for his first-born grandchild, and even a golden casket for his daughter's hamster.  His creativity and craftsmanship were evident in every piece he created.

He loved classical music and would often listen to it alongside his beloved Old English Sheepdog, Brandy and Bailey. Upon retiring, he found joy in flying around in his red convertible Miata, donning his driving gloves. He had a dry sense of humor and was quick to send his large family comics to lighten any mood and occasion.

Jim is survived by his children: Dr. Patricia White (Wesley), Erin Powers (Brian), Katie Fitzpatrick (Richard), Daniel Fitzpatrick, Brian Fitzpatrick, and the mother of his children, Barbara Fitzpatrick. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren and his newborn great-grandchild. Jim was preceded in death by his father, George Patrick Fitzpatrick, and his mother, Eileen Dolores Crosby.
A Christian Burial Mass will be celebrated on Monday 28, at 11:00 AM at St. Gregory the Catholic Church. He will be buried with military honors at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FLorida at 2:00 PM.
Jim's legacy will live on through his family, his accomplishments, and the memories shared by those who were fortunate enough to know him.  He will be remembered as a dedicated father, beloved grandfather, a skilled craftsman, and a true aviation enthusiast. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Fly high Captain Fitzpatrick.

I flew with Jim as his First Officer on the B-727 with Carnival Air Lines on numerous trips. Jim was personable and enjoyed mentoring his subordinate pilots. On one of our trips to Havana, Jim told me about his intense multi-day B-52 mission during the `Cuban Missile Crisis´ where he and other BUFF flyers lurked in holding patterns off the Cuban coast while loaded for war. RIP.

Jim and I met on a blind date to play bridge in 1964 and were married in February 1965. We had five children and a full life for over 33 years and even though we were not still married we remained best friends till his last day and he will be in my heart forever. I´ll always remember that he always made me feel like I was special because to him I was. Hope to see you again soon love
