James Lawrence Foster of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at the age of 85. Jim was born on March 22, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frances Marie Cooney and Dr. Linus Foster of Detroit.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth (Lyons) and children Mark, Scott, Kristin (Dale) Redman and Timothy (Shirley). Jim leaves behind his sister Judith (Foster) Roberts and seven beloved grandchildren. Jimmy (Clarysse), Max, Isabel, Francesca, Mark, Ann and Elizabeth.
Jim grew up in a strong Catholic family. He attended Gesu Catholic School and University of Detroit High School. Jim was the quarterback for U of D, leading the Cubs to the 1954 City Championship. In his Senior year, 1955, Jim was the captain of the football team, editor of the school yearbook and class president.
Jim attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio graduating with a B.A. in Marketing. He was a veteran of the Army, the Army National Guard and was a medic in the Naval Reserves. During his life, Jim worked in advertising sales and the printing business. Jim and his wife Liz, enjoyed traveling all over the world, visiting 5 different continents. Jim also cherished photography, classical music, history and was an avid sports fan.
Jim loved football, especially the University of Michigan Wolverines. His favorite saying was "Go Blue." He dedicated many years of service to Birmingham Brother Rice High School, as Dad's Club President, creator of the Brother Rice Sports Record Book and announcer for football and basketball games for over 10 years as the original "Voice of the Warriors." Jim was very proud of being part of Brother Rice family where his three boys and grandson, Max Foster, attended High School. Jim was recognized for his Distinguished Service by the Michigan Catholic High School Sports Hall of Fame.
A graveside service for James L. Foster will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Birmingham on Wednesday, August 3rd at 11:30 am.
