James D. Garretson, 61, of Newcomerstown, passed away on January 3, 2026, at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital.
He was born on August 11, 1964, in Millersburg, Ohio, to the late William and Leonna Carol Garretson.
James was a graduate of West Holmes High School and spent much of his working life as a milker on local dairy farms, including Andres Farms and Swihart Farms.
James enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved fishing, shooting pool, and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. He also had a special bond with his beloved dog, AJ, who was a constant companion.
He is survived by his son, Michael Garretson and his wife, Lydia; his step-son, Tim Cornelius; and his former wife, Barbara Garnes. He is also survived by close family friends who were like children to him: Alyssa Huebner and her husband Dakota, and James Swaim and his companion Samantha.
James was a proud grandfather to Makenzie and Kaiden Garretson, Kaleah, Raylan, and Aniah Huebner, and Addisyn and Walker Swaim, all of whom brought great joy to his life.
