James D. George III, 83, of Beverly, passed away on December 7, 2024, at Hathorne Hill in Danvers. Jim, as he was known by all, was born in Beverly, on June 15, 1941, to his late parents James D. and Frances (Ward) George II. Raised and educated in Beverly, he graduated from Beverly High School with the Class of 1960.
A simple paragraph or two cannot sum up a man's life. Jim's teenage years were spent on the water at the Jubilee Yacht Club in Beverly working on power boats and towing sailors to their annual summer sailboat races. After high school, following in the footsteps of his father, he decided to go to school to become an electrician. Jim started his long career as an electrician with Fisher and George, where his dad was part-owner and continued his career with Red Deering. He was a devoted member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Union Local 103, out of Boston and received his 60-year pin earlier this year. After "retiring" from his trade, Jim continued working part-time as the "janitorial engineer" at Scott Energy up until the summer of 2024.
Being very well traveled, Jim and his wife crossed the country and the globe. They embarked on multiple cruises, traveling Route 66, visiting the National Parks, going to Scotland and the Panama Canal. Jim also loved spending time at the family camp in Gilmanton Iron Works, NH, where he could either be found on the lake or keeping up with the property. He enjoyed the many simple pleasures in life; painting, yard work, taking care of his beloved trucks, and John Deere tractor. Jim was known throughout the neighborhood for his extravagant Halloween and Christmas decorations which everyone looked forward to every year.
Jim was a selfless man and a true friend who wouldn't hesitate to help anyone in need. Always giving back to the community, while his son was in the high school band he volunteered both his time and truck moving their equipment and instruments to all their off-campus events. Jim was at his happiest when he was spending time with his family, friends and the family cat, Lizzie. He touched many lives in many different circles and will fondly be remembered, cherished, and missed by all. Anyone that knew him would always have a story to share.
Jim is survived by his beloved bride, Linda (McEachern) George, with whom he celebrated over 58 years of marriage together. He is also survived by his son Jeffrey M. George and his wife Lisa, all of Beverly. Jim is the cherished grandfather to Abbey George of Ipswich, dear brother to his two sisters, Ann L. Garrity of Danvers and Sally G, Scott of Manchester-by-the-Sea, and the favorite uncle to several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son David James George, and his sister Ellen Colburn.
A funeral service for Jim will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 12:00 PM at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend. Interment to follow at North Beverly Cemetery, 685 Cabot Street, Beverly. Visiting hours will be held prior to the funeral service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
