James D. Gierke, 77, formerly of Wilton, WI died August 13, 2024. Jim was born August 3, 1947 in Chicago, IL the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur and Darlene (Nagel) Gierke. Jim graduated from East Leyden High School the class of 1965. James married Barbara Kozma in Chicago, IL on June 24, 1966.
Jim had worked part time at a Chevy dealer while he was in high school. After high school he worked at Breen VW as a mechanic. From there he worked for Prestige Porsche Audi and Bryntesen Porsche Audi in Hinsdale, IL as a journeyman mechanic; Norb Kornak Porsche Audi in Aurora, IL as a journeyman mechanic; retiring from Bill Jacobs Porsche Audi in Naperville, IL as a journeyman mechanic in 1995. After retiring from the automobile business, he ran an antique business in central Wisconsin.
Jim enjoyed music, laughing, biking, woodworking and spending time in Hawaii. He was also a Little League baseball coach for many years in Bartlett, IL.
Survivors include: sons Patrick (Donna) Gierke; Christian Gierke; Justin (Janet) Gierke; grandchildren Amanda, Londyn, Ashton; brother Mark (Debbie) Gierke; sister Susan (Alfred) Wiegrefe; numerous nieces. Predeceased by his parents, brother Daniel Gierke.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 12:00 pm August 23, 2024 in Memory Gardens Cemetery, 2501 East Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights, IL.

I went to grammar school with James at Jahn in Chicago when he lived at Oakdale and Wolcott. I am a distant relative My mother was a Gierke I lived about a 1/2 block away on George st. had not seen James since then. My sister and I were doing some family history last couple of days and I saw his name and decided to see if I could get in touch.
