James E Gist, aged 82, of Yukon, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, August 13th, 2025. He was born in Sulphur, Oklahoma on October 24, 1942, to his dear parents Roy and Ethel Gist. He lived in Oklahoma all his life.

Jim, as he was known to his many friends, spent his childhood in Mill Creek, Oklahoma where he graduated high school in 1960. He attended Murray State at Tishomingo, Oklahoma and then Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He graduated with a B.S. degree in 1965. He married Pauline Fullerton in 1963 and had one child, Eddie. They were married until 1984. Soon after college, he went to work for OG&E where he worked at the Mustang, Seminole, and Muskogee power plants. He loved his job as plant manager and later as manager of Power Production for OG&E until he retired in 1994.

He was a loving son, husband, father, and friend to all. He loved to travel and visited all 50 states over his lifetime. He was a little league baseball coach, football booster, and the number one fan of many friend's children as well as his son. His love for OSU sports, especially football and softball, was boundless. He is fondly remembered by all who knew him for his intelligence and sense of humor, along with a caring attitude. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. Jim also cherished being a member of the Bridge church in Mustang, Oklahoma which he attended for many years.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He is survived by his son Eddie Gist of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and his cousin Sheila Altom of Ardmore, Oklahoma, along with her children Tamara, Julie, and John. Jim also had many friends and loved ones that he considered family as well as a best friend, Marcia Powell.

Visitation will be at McNeil's Funeral Service in Mustang on Sunday, August 17th from 1pm-4pm. Funeral services are being held on Monday, August 18th, 2025 at the Bridge Church in Mustang, Oklahoma at 10am. There will also be a graveside service at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur, Oklahoma at 2 pm on the same day.
