James A. Griffing

James A. Griffing, 82, of West Elm Street, Oneida, died Thursday, June 19, 2025, in Oneida Health Hospital following a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.
Born in Rome on May 24, 1943, he was the son of James J. and Josephine R. Venturo Griffing. Mr. Griffing was a graduate of Camden High School, Class of 1961 and a lifelong resident of the area. He married Maxine E. Murdock in Wampsville on September 15, 1974.
Prior to his retirement in 1997, James was a machinist for Oneida Limited, where he was employed for more than thirty-five years. He was the owner and operator of White House Antiques in Bouckville for more than twenty years, where he never hesitated to make a customer-friendly deal, extending the family discount to most who visited his store. James was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and spending winters in Kentucky with his family.
He adored his wife, Maxine, the love of his life, until the very end, and the children they raised together. Maxine's love and care helped make the end of his long life as happy as possible, and in his final days, expressed his love for visiting family members by saying "Gimme a kiss." He and Maxine cherished the company of the many miniature schnauzers who joined their family throughout the years. His most recent, Lily, who he nicknamed "Lilianna," will miss him dearly.
Surviving are his wife, Maxine, his children, Scott Griffing, James Griffing, Deborah (Steve) Lancaster of Hopkinsville, KY, Mark Curtis (Blyth) of Oneida, Stacey (Shane) Maxson of Fayetteville, NC and Brett (Kim) Griffing of Oneida; one sister, Geraldine Helt of North Bay; Sisters-in-Law Alice (Fred) Dunn and Margaret (Don) Lasko; Brother-in-Law, Richard "Corky" (Sandy) Murdock; eighteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother John Griffing in November 2024; sister-in law Kathie Griffing in September 2017; and nephew Mark Helt in June 2021.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., where the Rev. Christopher J. Ballard will officiate. Interment will take place in North Bay Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Monday prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home, 342 Main St., Oneida.
