James E Guinee Sr. 79 of Manchester died after a long illness on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Elizabeth and raised in Roselle, he resided in Union for 39 years before moving to Manchester 15 years ago. He worked 31 years for the Springfield Board of Education. He started as a 5th grade Social Studies Teacher and as his own disability progressed, he transitioned to teaching Special Education. He was on several committees advocating for the rights of the handicapped. He was a member of St. John's Church Knights of Columbus Council #12940. He was also a member of the Renaissance Men's Club, Irish American Club, Retired Educators Club and the GS Philharmonic Club. He enjoyed telling jokes, spending time with his grandchildren, going to the Jersey Shore, reading, playing Mexican Train card games, & cruising. He is predeceased by his brother, Thomas Guinee. Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Carol A Guinee, son, James E Guinee Jr, Esq & his fiancée Jennifer Morzano and daughter, Kathleen Guinee EdD & husband Kevin Roberdeau, sister, Dorothy A Chard and 6 grandchildren, James III, Meghan, Sean, Andrew, Alicia & Amanda. Visitation is Tuesday 2-5 PM at Oliverie Funeral Home 2925 Ridgeway Rd Manchester. Funeral Liturgy is Wednesday 10 AM at St John's Church, Lakehurst with interment to follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Center for Hope Hospice & Palliative Care 1900 Raritan Rd. Scotch Plains, NJ 07076.
