James Haley Obituary
Published by Legacy on Nov. 12, 2025.
James Arthur Haley Jr., aged 74, of Akron, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 6, 2025. Born on February 18, 1951, in Saginaw, Michigan, he was the son of the late J. Arthur and Eleanore (Kushner) Haley. Known affectionately as "Bo" by his family, James was a cherished brother, uncle, and friend whose resilience left a lasting imprint on all who knew him.
From a young age, James exhibited an unwavering determination. At the tender age of 15, he sustained a closed head injury in a car accident that forever altered his life's trajectory. However, undeterred by the challenges he faced, James continued to approach life with enthusiasm. He completed his education at Vassar High School and went on to attend Delta College, showing remarkable dedication by hitchhiking to classes each day.
James's commitment to service was evident in his desire to serve his country. Although his time in the army was cut short by being honorably medical discharged, he carried the same spirit of service into his everyday life. James held various positions throughout his life, including a clerk at Van's Grocery, until he was declared disabled.
A man of deep faith, James found his greatest joy in attending church and nurturing his relationship with the Lord. This passion was the cornerstone of his life, providing him with strength and comfort through all of life's trials and triumphs. His love for storytelling and his daily ritual of reading the newspaper were hallmarks of his life.
His favorite food, a simple peanut butter and jelly sandwich, was a testament to his appreciation for life's simple pleasures. He also had a passion for reading. A staunch participant in democracy, James never missed an opportunity to cast his vote in every election.
He is lovingly remembered by his siblings, Pat (Lori) Haley, Mike (Char) Haley, Tim (Jan) Haley, Dan (Rose) Haley, Dennis (Denise) Haley, and Chuck (Susie) Haley. His life was also enriched by the presence of many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sister, Nora Haley.
The Haley family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Juanita and Ed Hollister for the exceptional care and companionship they provided to James. Their kindness and dedication exemplified the very essence of compassion and love.
