Mr. James Edward Harry, 71, of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and affectionately known as "Bay Bay", was born March 31, 1951 to Ernest Lee Harry, Sr. and Dorothy Lee Lindzy Harry, who preceded him in death. He departed this life on March 7, 2023.
His formal education was received through the Halifax County School System, graduating from John Armstrong Chaloner in 1969. In September 1969, James enlisted in the United States Navy. He served his country until June 1975. He was Honorably Discharged.
James' passion for music led him to the Julliard School of Music in New York. He later earned a degree from North Carolina Wesleyan College with high honors. His professional endeavors lead him to work his way up to the position of Director of Recreation for a correctional institution in North Carolina and Virginia. James was also the owner of J.E. Harry Trucking and later in his career, he became a Qualified Mental Health Professional with New Beginnings.
James was baptized and joined the Carter's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He was affiliated with many churches, bands and musical groups, doing what he loved so much, "playing his guitar".
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son: Kendrick Dickens; sister: Mary Louise Harry Scott; brother: Ernest L. Harry Jr. and Suliman El-Min, a cousin who was like a brother.
Those left to cherish his memory are the love of his life: Cheryl Rainey of Valentine, VA; sons: Anthony Daniels, Sr. (Valencia) of Raleigh, NC, Captain Tyrone Boone (U.S. Army), NC and Joseph Squire of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his second mother: Otelia Lashley Harry of Roanoke Rapids, NC; brothers: Charles (Brenda) Lashley and Jasper (Joyce) Lashley of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Ronnie (Stephanie) Harry of Carrolton, VA, Walter Harry (Iesha) of Rich Square, NC and Clayton Harry (Veronica) of Fuquay Varina, NC; sisters: Dorothy Harry and Marjorie Harry of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Debra Harry of Douglasville, GA, Loretta Mabry (Issac) of Portsmouth, VA and Warline Bryant (Derrick) of Aberdeen, MD; grandsons: Anthony Daniels, Jr. (U.S. Navy), Amar Daniels (U.S. Marines) and Andrew Daniels of Raleigh, NC; aunt: Doris Harry, Charlotte, NC; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
A Visitation will be held for Mr. Harry, on Saturday, March 18 2023 from 11:00 am to 12 Noon at Carter's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church located at 490 Everetts School Road, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. Funeral Service will follow the visitation beginning at 12:00 Noon The interment will take place immediately following the service at Shearin's Chapel Church Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
