James Richard Hittle Sr.
January 16, 1948 - August 28, 2025
Sigel, Pennsylvania
James Richard Hittle Sr., known affectionately as "Jim" to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025. He was 77.
Born on January 16, 1948, Jim was raised on the family farm in Fredonia, Pennsylvania, where he developed a lifelong love for the outdoors. He was a proud retiree of Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Meadville, PA, where he dedicated many years of hard work and craftsmanship.
Jim was a man of many talents and passions. A renowned hunter and fisherman, he spent much of his life exploring the woods and waters of Mercer and Elk Counties, often accompanied by his sons and beloved wife, Pat. His adventures took him across the western United States in pursuit of big game, and one of his favorite fishing destinations was Quebec, Canada-a place he returned to time and again with family.
On March 9, 2007, Jim married Patricia Shrock, his devoted companion and wife of 31 years. Together, they built a life rooted in love, family, and community. Jim was known for his generosity, his knack for conversation, and his remarkable ability to engineer and construct anything from metal or lumber. He built his home in Sigel with his own hands-a testament to his ingenuity and determination.
Jim is survived by his wife, Patricia Hittle; his children, James R. Hittle Jr. of Siler City, NC, Thomas L. Hittle (wife Becky) of Virgilina, VA, and Pamela Reagle (husband Charles) of Transfer, PA, his former wife, Dorothy Sigler; and his stepsons, Douglas Shrock (wife Kelly) of Conneaut, PA, Daniel Shrock (wife Chasity) of Hartstown, PA, and David Shrock (wife Charity) of Greenville, PA.
He is also survived by his brothers: ; Donald Hittle (wife Linda) of Conneaut Lake, Paul Hittle of Cadillac, MI; and William Hittle (wife Patricia) of Mercer, PA.
Jim was a proud grandfather and step-grandfather to many, including his late grandson James Allen Hittle, and step-grandchildren Kelsey Trimmer, Nicole Claypoole, Cerena Anderson, Brittany Shrock, Brooke Shrock, Kiersten Shrock, Erika Shrock, Kylie Shrock, and Kolten Shrock. He also leaves behind step-great-grandchildren Kailynne Youngblood and Chase Youngblood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Leo Hittle.
Jim's legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the stories he shared, and the home he built. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
