James Henry "Jim" Kiley, III

James Henry “Jim” Kiley III, of Edinboro, passed away Monday, August 18, 2025, at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie. He was born June 14, 1946, in Hackensack, NJ, the son of James H. Kiley, Jr. and Maxine Kiley (Miller). He is survived by Jane, his beloved wife of 58 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, son, James IV and his wife, Ellen, of Forest Hills; daughter, Eileen Kiley, of Wexford; son, Sean and his partner, Valerie Lewis, of Erie; as well as his sister, Maxine Elving, of Wayne, NJ. Further survivors include his grandchildren, James, Jack, and Haley, as well as a large extended family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal uncles, John B. Miller (aka Uncle Jack) and William “Bill” Miller.

Raised in New Milford, NJ, Jim attended Bergen Catholic High School where he was a member of the track team. He worked in the supermarket industry for three decades, for King’s, Grand Union, and A&P in New Jersey, New York, and St Louis, later moving to become Vice President of Operations for Geifman Food Stores in the Quad Cities of Iowa and Illinois. He took a job with the Peter J. Schmidt Company as an executive with the Loblaws chain of supermarkets in the Erie, PA area; later playing a key role with other subsidiaries, including Apples and Bell’s.

In the mid-90’s, Jim moved to another line of work, as a car salesman for several dealerships in the Erie area, retiring from Cunningham Chrysler in Edinboro in 2013.

In retirement, he became active in local politics, taking an appointment to the Edinboro Borough Council before being elected to two terms starting in 2015, chairing several committees during his tenure, and retiring from politics in 2024. Jim’s love of the democratic process and his knack for navigating bureaucracy served him well as a member of council.

Jim’s proudest accomplishment was his family, whom he doted on, especially his grandchildren. He loved having the whole family together for the holidays, for birthdays, or simply because it was the weekend. Jim loved to read, and he loved to garden – his lawn and landscaping were truly his pride and joy.

Friends may call at Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie St., Edinboro, on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 128 Sunset Dr., Edinboro.
