James M. "Jimmy" Jones

James "Jimmy" M. Jones, 83, passed away October 30, 2025 in Victoria, TX. He was born on April 4, 1942 in Fort Worth, TX and graduated from Paschal High School in 1960.
He worked his first job at age 11, delivering his own paper route for the Fort Worth Star Telegram. He advanced with the Star Telegram working there into his mid 20's and fondly remembered delivering Willie Nelson's paper in the late 1950's before he was famous.
Jimmy worked in the oil field equipment industry for 50 years where early on, he owned his own company, S and J Rig Services. S&J joined partnership with Gregory Rig Service in Odessa and then Gregory eventually sold to National Oilwell in the 90's. He later went to work for Key Energy Services as their Corp. Asset Manager and finally, he got the opportunity to assist Modern Group start up their Dragon Mobile Rig Division. He helped build and grow many companies and worked tirelessly so they would thrive. He loved his work in the oil equipment industry and enjoyed traveling to many countries as well as all over the US in search of partnerships to sell and produce equipment. He spent time in China, Russia, Dubai, Argentina, Australia, Papua New Guinea and Canada. He enjoyed bringing his wife Vickay on several of these trips to share in the exploration, as he would be gone for weeks at a time.
Jimmy coached all of his daughters in softball (UGSA in Abilene) for many years where he made many friends and loved spending time with all of his daughters and their friends.
Jimmy will be remembered for his love of family, his generosity to all, his strong work ethic, his gentle nature, and the joy he brought to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Vickay Jones; parents, Vernon and Lela Mae Jones; sister Barbara Jean Jones; and son, Donald Craig Jones.
He is survived by four daughters, Monica O'Dell and husband Danny, Kathi Childers and husband Mark, Hali McDonald and husband Storm, Jamyi Huff and husband Cedric. He is survived by his grandchildren Billy (and wife Meagan) O'Dell, Ashlyn (O'Dell) Barnes and husband Nate, Kennady Childers, Garrett Childers, Spencer (and wife Hope)Denney, Kaylynn Denney, Dynasty Harris, Tai, Kerra, Khi, Jazz and Rhythm Huff and 3 great grandchildren Maverick and Lynnleigh O'Dell and baby Barnes.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 22nd at 11 a.m. at Grace Funeral Home, Houston Hwy, Victoria, Texas.
