James Richard Kempf of Grand Ledge,
Born August 1, 1964, in Lansing, MI, son of Richard A. Kempf and the late Marion Kempf-Wood, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, at the age of 60 after battling cancer.
James, known as Jim or Jimmy to many, was a 1982 graduate of Grand Ledge High School. Jim was well known in the community through working along side his father at the family business, "Kempf's Auto Service".
Jim enjoyed spending time with his friends, family, extended family and anything NASCAR. He was an avid NASCAR fan, attending many races with his brother Andy Kempf. He loved collecting NASCAR memorabilia and such items. Jim also loved classic cars and going to cars shows. Jim's prized possession was his 1986 442 Cutlass!
Jim is survived by his son Calen (Amber) Kempf of Eagle, mother of his son Jodie Westfall of DeWitt, father Richard A. Kempf of Grand Ledge, lifelong best friend Rick Nye of Lansing, siblings Brenda (Tom) Owen of Lansing, Sara (Jeff) Webster of Lansing, Andy (Jennifer) Kempf of Eaton Rapids, Amanda (Scott) Fedewa of Grand Ledge, David (Kelli) Aungst of Sunfield, Michael (Bridget) Aungst of Eagle; nieces and nephews Jessica Weirick, Mya Fedewa, Spencer Fedewa, Logan Cooper, Isabelle Fedewa, David (Katie) Aungst, Zachary Aungst, and Elizabeth (Matthew) Dunckel; great niece Sabrina Smith.
Jim is also survived by his extended family who were always a big part of his life, Tami & Greg Scarborough of Lake Odessa, Travis, Erin, & Travis Scarborough Jr., and Riley, Carol, & Adien Scarborough of Mulliken.
He is preceded in death by his mother Marion Kempf-Wood, grandparents Maynard and Lucile Kempf, Clifford & Velma Osmer, nephew Christopher James Kempf, stepmother Carol A. Kempf and mother and father-in-law Jan and Richard Green.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2025, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel. A funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm, Thursday July 10, 2025, at the funeral home with visitation the hour prior. Interment will follow in North Eagle Cemetery. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to, North Eagle Cemetery Association or the American Cancer Society.
