James W. Kidd, age 91, passed away on June 30th peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on June 4th, 1933, in Deerfield, TN to the late James Oleo and Zula Truitt Kidd.
James grew up in Hohenwald where he played football and was president of his class. He attended Tennessee Tech University on a football scholarship and was chosen to be on the Banner's Midstate College Team as a Right End in 1954. James met and married cheerleader and wife of 70 years, Polly (Donna Sue) Kidd, at Tech. He was active duty in the Army for 3 years. James worked at LT Stone Lumber Company which was a family business then he and Polly started Polly's Florist. After selling the florist, he went on to work at McCluen Company until he retired. He and Polly enjoyed many years on Center Hill Lake houseboating. He was an expert carpenter and talented woodworker who built many beautiful pieces of furniture for his family. For years, James built and flew model airplanes mentoring many young people in the craft. He was also a talented carver and was a true artist. His family relied heavily on his extensive knowledge of repairing things. James always had a smile on his face and was an avid sports fan.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother Charles Kidd.
James is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Donna Sue (Polly) Kidd, and daughters Karen Kidd and Jamie Kay Stamps. He was a wonderful grandfather to Nathan Mathews, Jenny Grosche, Aren Stamps, Reid Stamps and Jake Stamps and great grandfather to seven that he loved so much.
The family is incredibly grateful to the nurses at Signature Healthcare, Gentiva Hospice and compassionate caregiver Miranda Cook.
James has chosen cremation, and the family will have a private celebration of life at a later date.
James adored his schnauzer Susie, so donations can be made in his memory to the Putnam County Animal Shelter.
