James E. Koplitz, age 83, of Wausau, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 9th, 2025 at Wood Aven Health and Rehabilitation.
James was born on January 31, 1942, in Wausau to Earl and Stella (Sowinski) Koplitz. During his teenage years, he met Sharon Janz, and they became high school sweethearts at Wausau East High School. Throughout his life, Jim embraced numerous roles, from owning a gas station to working for the county and driving semi-trucks. Eventually, he pursued his passion for cars by establishing his own body shop, K&K Auto Sales, which he proudly operated for over 40 years. Renowned for his kind nature, Jim was always eager to offer assistance and cherished conversations with his clients, many of whom became lifelong friends. Beyond his professional endeavors, Jim was an avid NASCAR enthusiast, attending numerous races over the years. He also delighted in outdoor activities such as fishing and hunting, and took great pleasure in cooking, particularly crafting homemade sausage. Jim possessed a rare gift for bringing joy and laughter to others, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.
Jim is survived by his son, Brian Koplitz; granddaughter, Amanda (Jeff) Sarauer; and brothers, Bob Koplitz and Rick (Joyce) Koplitz. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Laura Koplitz; sister-in-law, Donna Janz; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; sons, Steven and Michael Koplitz; daughter, Michele Bonnell; son-in-law, James Bonnell; and siblings, Jerry Koplitz, Patrick Kinney, and Joyce Kolbe.
