James "Jim" Frank Kulzer, born December 12,1939, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on January 21, 2025. Married to his wife Sally, they raised 4 children in Ormond Beach, and have placed deep roots in this community.
Born in Pittsburg Pennsylvania, where he lived with his family. In 1948 the family moved to Ormond Beach, Florida. Jim was a graduate of Seabreeze High School class of 1957. He went on to study at Florida State University where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Hospitality and Hotel Management. At FSU Jim met and married Sally. They returned to Ormond Beach after graduation to begin life together.
Jim began his lifelong career as a hotelier, owning and operating the Biltmore Beach Lodge, which later became Plantation Island Resort. He went on to build and own other hotels in the area. In the early years as a hotelier Jim traveled extensively to conventions and was instrumental in promoting the Hotel and Hospitality industry for Daytona Beach and surrounding areas. He was a member of the Ormond Beach Rotary.
A member of Oceanside Country Club, where he was president from 1973- 1975. He loved to play golf with his friends and family and throughout his life, he made five hole-in-one's, and was a Senior Club Champion.
Aside from the love of golf, he was an avid traveler. He opened New Horizons Travel in the1980's which is now run by their daughter Carol Ann still today. A highlight of his travels was playing the Old Course at St. Andrews, in Scotland with his 3 sons. Jim lived life to the fullest. His love for golf and travel was something he shared with his family and friends, leaving memories that will never fade. His proudest accomplishment was his family. Always making sure they were somehow involved in his life, this was the foundation of who he was. Whether he was cheering on Florida State football, taking a trip, sharing a delicious meal, or enjoying a cocktail in good company, every moment with Jim was filled with warmth and laughter. He lived life to the fullest, never with regrets.
Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sally; children: Keith (Karen), Jeffrey (Jennie), Carol Ann (Pat), and Michael; his sister Sue Martin; grandchildren Josh, Alex, Clayton, Avery, Patrick, and Jake; along with several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, 4pm – 6 pm at Oceanside Country Club, Ormond Beach.

My husband Mike and I met Jim about 30 years ago. Our whole family thinks of Plantation Island as our home away from home, and now we have 4 generations gathering there, because it IS home to us. Jim has made us feel like family from the beginning, and we have always admired his love of life, and his passion for treating others so well. We love his family too, and feel so grateful to be counted as friends. We will miss his laughter and his wonderful smile . Save us seats, Jim...and we´ll see you in Heaven!
