James M Lawhorn

KNOX – James M. "Sarge" Lawhorn passed away peacefully on June 5, 2023 in his home while surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 2, 1939 in Liberty, KY to the late Lonzie "Clarence" and Minnie (Sharp) Lawhorn Sr., and was 84 years old at the time of his death.
He lived in the area for approximately 45 years coming from West Point, VA and was a retired Truck Driver. On October 12, 1965 in Taunton, MA he married the love of his life Patricia (Tapley). He was a Veteran of the US Navy serving in the Vietnam War, as well as a member of the Hamlet American Legion Post #356 and Culver VFW Post #6919. This extensive military background earned him the nickname Sarge. He enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. Sarge was a true "jack of all trades" and known to his family as "Pappy Fik It". Most of all he cherished his family dearly, especially his grandkids, and showed this by attending all their extracurricular activities.
Sarge is survived by his loving wife Patricia of Knox; four daughters Trisha Vician of Montana, Toni (Phillip) Dean of Argos, Tara (Tony) Taylor of Hamlet, and Cassi Kring of Michigan; five grandchildren Dustin, Kristie, Dalton, Ashley, and Katelyn; several great grandchildren; one brother Mick (Sharon) Lawhorn of Marshall, IN; one sister Helen (J.B.) Sims of Clinton, IN, one sister-in-law Barbara Lawhorn of Bainbridge, IN; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his son Mark Lawhorn; two brothers L.C. Lawhorn and Rod Lawhorn; and one sister Jane Dowdy.
Visiting hours will be from 4:00 – 7:00 CDT Monday, June 12, 2023 at the Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel. Funeral Services will be at 12:00 PM CDT/1:00 PM EDT Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Clinton, IN.
