Memorial services for James Robert “Bobby” Massie, 71, of Purcell, are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Velma with Rev. Mike Johnston officiating. Inurnment will follow at the New Velma Cemetery in Velma, OK. Services are under the direction and care of Alexander Gray Funeral Home and Crematory in Velma.
Bobby was born September 23, 1953, at Duncan, OK. to the late Mr. Robert Henry “RH” Massie and Mrs. Lillie “Opal” (White) Massie. He departed this life Thursday, April 10, 2025, at his home in Purcell.
Bobby lived his life with a deep affection for his hometown and the people in it, embracing the memories and friendships he formed along the way. After graduating from Velma Alma Public Schools in 1971, Bobby dedicated 44 years to a career as a truck driver for the oilfield and he cherished every moment spent behind the wheel. A significant chapter of his life was spent with S & W Transport, where he learned the ins and outs of trucking, paving the way for a successful career. Throughout his journey, he also drove for several tank truck services in Stephens and Carter County, all of which contributed to his vast knowledge and experience in the field. In his later years, Bobby found support at Ener West Trading in Duncan, OK, a company that played an important part in helping him transition into retirement. Bobby's heart belonged to Brenda Orum, whom he married on August 2, 1974. Their marriage was filled with shared dreams and cherished moments that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew them.
Preceding him in death are his parents, RH and Opal; son, Chad Massie; brother, Von Darrell Massie; sisters, Kaye Stoner and Ann Firestone; nephews, Jay Stoner and Marty Firestone.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda of the home; grandchildren, Miles and Morgan Massie of Duncan; sister, Gwen Mines of Las Vegas, NV; brother, Rocky Massie of Duncan; Numerous other family and a host of friends.
In Lieu of flowers, Bobby would be honored for contributions to be made to your favorite charity or for you to give a simple hug to a struggling loved one letting them know how important they are to you.
