Leonard Herschel Massie, 81, of Lovington, IL passed away at 2:44 PM on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main St., Arcola, IL. Burial will follow in the Hugo Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
Herschel was born on April 9, 1944 in Moultrie County, IL. He was a son of James Raymond and Susie Irene (Knigh) Massie. He married Wilma Beckham in May of 1983 in Decatur, IL. She passed away on October 2, 1994.
He is survived by five children, Phillip R. Jordan and his wife Amanda of Decatur, IL, Lynn Carf of Owensboro, KY, Randy E. Jordan and his wife Julie of Decatur, IL, Melissa Massie of Lovington, IL and Zachariah J. Massie of Lovington, IL, 19 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and seven siblings, Martha Cole of Atwood, IL, Sherray Baker of Neoga, IL, Kathy Thompson and her husband Gary of Rockford, IL, Phillip Massie of Villa Grove, IL, Robert Massie of Mattoon, IL, Porter Massie of Hindsboro, IL and Rodney Massie and his wife Brandy of Lovington, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Leonard Herschel Massie Jr., two brothers, Ed Massie and Larry Massie and two sisters, Elizabeth Kellems and Mary Laws.
Herschel spent most of his time scraping metal and putting together stock cars to race at Charleston Speedway. He enjoyed fishing, going to auctions, working on cars and playing cards.
Memorials may be made to Herschel’s family.
