James "Jim" Andrew McDaniel left this world peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior Christ Jesus early Wednesday morning on January 29, 2025, in Justin, TX at the age of 75. He was born in Kerrville, TX on February 19, 1949, to Andrew and Lucy (Glenn) McDaniel and then his family moved to Denton, TX where he graduated from Denton High in 1969.
After graduation he began working at Sears while he went to school to study law enforcement. It was at the Sears in Denton that he met his future bride Beverly Swink in 1969, and they married on March 3, 1973, in Denton, Texas. They would have celebrated 52 years married this March, but Beverly proceeded Jim in death in 2015. His love for her never faded and he waited patiently for his day to be called home to Heaven to see his beautiful bride once more.
Jim enjoyed a twenty-year stretch in a career he was very enthusiastic about law enforcement. Working for Cisco, Lewisville, and finally Sanger Police Department where he retired in the 90's. He loved this career and especially loved keeping his community and family safe. He was fond of telling stories of his time behind the badge with his favorite memories of catching "bad guys," especially robbers. He was proud of this role and was beloved by many, earning the nickname "Buzz the Fuzz" to his daughters and their friends. After his career in law enforcement, he decided on a different career path, something less stressful. He began working as a warehouse supervisor at Dealers Electric Supply in Denton where he worked until his retirement in 2010. When he was not working, he was busy spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids, and friends. He was devoted to his girls, as his world was filled with lots of incredible women. He and Beverly had two daughters, three granddaughters, and he was just weeks away from meeting his first great-granddaughter. He was over the moon excited about becoming a great-grandfather and was anticipating the arrival of Karsynn Raelynn Shands. He told everyone about her upcoming arrival and was overjoyed when speaking of her to those in his life. He enjoyed his quiet time fishing anywhere he could find a bite or watching reruns of Gunsmoke and The Rifleman. He loved hanging out with his grandkids and watching them cheer or play in the band. A strong believer in Christ, he read his bible and shared the gospel of Jesus with whoever would listen. He anticipated Sundays every week when he knew his best friend of 57 years would faithfully pick him up and take him to church. Robert Genova was the best man in their wedding and a lifelong friend.
Jim had many friends and was thankful to be in the company of friends. Jim was quick to give a compliment to a pretty lady, often caught smiling his way into so many hearts that had the pleasure of knowing him. He was hilarious, always joking, dancing crazy, or enjoying laughter with his daughters, grandchildren, loved ones and friends. He loved eating good Sunday dinners and having fellowship with his people. It was hard to be in a bad mood around him, his spirit was light, and he never met a stranger. He had a gift for storytelling and could captivate those around him with his life tales. We are all better for having spent time with Jim.
He is survived by his eldest daughter, Andrea Brentz, and her husband, Eric Brentz of Fort Worth, Texas; his youngest daughter, Amanda "Mandy" McMillon, and her husband, Travis McMillon of Valley View, Texas. He leaves behind three grandchildren: Kyrstin McDaniel and her partner, Jaden Shands of Lewisville, Texas, as well as Gillian and Emma Brentz of Fort Worth, Texas. Additionally, he is survived by his sister Sharon McDaniel Lindsey, and three grandsons from his late son Chad-Jacob, Josh, and Joel.
He is proceeded in death by his wife Beverly Sue (Swink) McDaniel, his father, Andrew Jackson McDaniel, his mother, Lucy Ann (Glenn) McDaniel, his sister Cordellia Anne Bailey, his brother William "Bill" McDaniel, and his son Chad McDaniel.
A memorial service will be on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 11:30AM at Denton County Cowboy Church at 400 Robinson Rd. Ponder, TX 76259. A fellowship meal with family and friends will be directly following the service provided by the church. Please join us to bid Jim farewell by doing what he loved the most, celebrating our Lord and Savior and having fellowship with the people he loved.
