James “Jim” McMullen (1940 – 2025)
What mattered most of all was the dash between those years. For that dash represents all the
time that they spent alive on earth.
Jim McMullen of Haslet, TX passed away on Good Friday, April 18, 2025. Jim, fondly known as
Jimmy, was born on January 12, 1940. He was born to J.W. & Setta McMullen in Lufkin, TX.
He moved to Denver City in 1949. He graduated from Denver City High School on May 23,
1958. He was a good student who enjoyed his time playing with the High School Marching and
Concert Band. He attended Texas Tech in Lubbock for a time and decided to join the Air Force
in 1959 where he served our country proudly until 1964 when he was honorably discharged. He
was a Radar Technician who worked closely with the B52 Bomber. While he was enlisted with
the Air Force he met and married Ruth Elaine Shaw on December 22, 1961. He and Ruth
enjoyed ceramics and were frequently found in the garage working on them. They created their
ceramics from start to finish and gave away almost everything they made. Jim had his private
pilot’s license and was a partner in an airplane venture. He loved flying, talking and hanging out
at the airport. Another one of Jim’s passions was his engraving business. He enjoyed working
with several local businesses and as well as a nursing program at TWU to provide them with
name tags and trophies. If it sat still in his house dad put an engraved name tag on it.
Unfortunately, Ruth passed away in April 1977 and he later met and married Diane Bos on
November 24, 1987 in Tyler, TX. They were two peas in a pod and happily married until Diane’s
passing in 2009. Jim worked several places until he landed at Texas Instruments and found his
career home. He was technical writer and turned Engineers words into layman terms. He was
with Texas Instruments for over 30 years when he retired. He enjoyed a nice long retirement
after Texas Instruments during which he and Diane traveled frequently.
He was preceded in death by J.W. McMullen & Setta Hudry, as well as Ruth McMullen & Diane McMullen.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Kimberly K Korte of Haslet, TX; his son,
Timothy W. McMullen of Newnan GA.; he also leaves behind three grandchildren who only
knew of Jim and Diane as Noona & Poopa, including Jared A. Korte of Haslet TX, current Navy
Sailor, Abigail E. McMullen of Newnan GA and Kelsey L. Korte of Fort Worth, TX. He leaves
behind his brothers, Ken McMullen and his wife, Alva Lee of Tyler, TX, and Wayne Hudry and his
wife Twila of Decatur, AL; and sister, Kathleen Quaranta and her husband, Dean of Colorado
Springs, CO.
