James "Jim" McPartlin, a retired Quincy firefighter and loving husband and father, died on May 21 in Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston after suffering a stroke. He was 71.
Jim followed in his father's footsteps when he joined the Quincy Fire Department in 1978. He served for 32 years and loved serving the community. Outside of work, he was a devoted husband to his wife of 33 years, Susan Dunn McPartlin, and a loving father to their two sons Patrick James McPartlin and Michael Devon McPartlin, both of Marshfield.
Jim was an avid sports fan who loved to watch his sons play sports, and who delighted in cheering on the Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics throughout his life. He also enjoyed golf, boating and fishing and found joy in spending time with family and friends on the greens and exploring the Boston Harbor islands and the waterways of the South Shore. He and his wife Susan enjoyed traveling and spent time every summer on Martha's Vineyard where the two met some 35 years ago.
He also loved gardening, particularly at his home in Marshfield, and was a talented handy man who could tackle any project. Friends and family praised him for his unwavering kindness in assisting with repairs and building projects, and for his warm, friendly demeanor that endeared him to all. He was a good person and a true gentleman whose generosity of spirit will not be forgotten.
Jim was the son of the late James and Margaret McPartlin of Quincy. He graduated from North Quincy High School, Class of 1970, and was proud to be from Quincy's Montclair section, where he was raised with his six siblings. He was predeceased by his brother, the late Thomas McPartlin of Quincy, and is survived by his sister Pat Langley and her husband Bill of San Rafael, CA; Eileen Lloyd of Middletown, RI; Peggy McGuiness and her husband Bruce of Oakdale, CT; his brother Neal McPartlin and his companion Kristen of Hallowell, Maine; his brother Gary McPartlin of Fairfield, Maine; and his sister-in-law Wendie McPartlin of Quincy, MA.
Visiting Hours will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Christine Catholic Church, 1295 Main Street in Marshfield.

Always enjoyed and proud of growing up "Montclair" especially with the older guys. It was great guys and mentors like "Jimbo" who took you under their wing and guided you to enjoy and respect "your" neighborhood and park, and what a great benefit it provided. We all enjoyed and appreciated our years growing up in that era...and with guys like Jim it made the challenges of being a young kid trying to fit in so much easier. Truly loved that man and running in to him many times thereafter..!! He will be missed for sure...
