Obituary of James Morrissey
James Morrissey, 82, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025. James was born in 1942 to his parents, the late James Morrissey and Mary Edith Morrissey. He was also pre deceased by his sister, Patricia Morrissey and her husband Mac McQueeny
James is survived by his Sister Joyce Morrissey, of Marshfield
his Son James D. Morrissey of MN, daughter Jessica Falcone, of Pembroke and son in law Fred Falcone, of Pembroke. He is the grandfather of Freddie Falcone and his wife Lee Sullivan of Salem, Va, Joe Falcone of Pembroke, Frankie Falcone of Maui, his adopted daughters, Leah and Bella, his best friend since childhood, Joe Sullivan and his faithful canine companion Alya.
James was a graduate of Matignon High School in 1959. He then graduated from UMASS Amherst in 1970 with a bachelors degree of science. He was also a graduate of Bridgewater State College in 1980 with a masters degree in science. James worked at
Cardinal Cushing School in Hanover as a physical education teacher. He was the co-founder of the Special Olympics Association in Massachusetts and was also the State Program Director for the MA Special Olympics. He worked at the McLean Hospital in Belmont for many years. James was the director of the rehab department at Pembroke Hospital and was the Local Town Recreation Commissioner. James was a very passionate teacher, most recently a science teacher at Weymouth Middle School.
James was an avid gardener and farmer and was proud to serve Thanksgivingfor his family. He would serve turkey and 10 different vegetables all grown on his farm. James was also the Co-Founder and Assistant Scout Master of a local Scout group. He also served on the Pembroke Board of Health. James loved to read, go on walks in Myles Standish State Forest with Alya. Weekly trips to walk along the Cape Cod Canal with Jessica and Alya.
James was proud and Passionate about the 2nd amendment. He was a lifelong Boston sports fan. James enjoyed spending time at the Y in Wareham working out and socializing with all his good friends. He also loved to make corned beef and cabbage for his family on St. Patrick's Day. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 12th from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St, Kingston.
