Devoted husband and father, James S. Nolan, of East Windsor, died of natural causes on September 5 at Meadow Lakes. He was 89. Jim resided most of his life in New York City and moved to West Windsor, New Jersey in 1971 where he raised five children along with his beloved wife of 62 years, the late Elaine Louise (Prumos) Nolan.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Jim attended Brooklyn Prep and as a young man worked as a lifeguard at Rockaway Beach. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958 as part of the U.N. peacekeeping forces in Korea. Upon the completion of his military service, he graduated from Fordham University with a degree in English and spent most of his professional career in legal publishing. He worked in sales, training and management, and served as sales training manager for Mathew Bender and executive vice president of Warren, Gorham and Lamont. Jim was a founding member of St. David the King Catholic Church and co-founded the PAL basketball program in West Windsor.
Son of the late Stephan and Marguerite Mary (Footer) Nolan, husband of the late Elaine L. Nolan, father of the late Jennifer M. Nolan, he is survived by sons James S. Nolan, Jr., Christopher J. Nolan, Paul A. Nolan, Peter J. Nolan, and seven grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, September 16, at St. David the King Church, 1 New Village Road, West Windsor, NJ.
Private Burial will take place in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Maryknoll Missions: https://maryknoll.org.
