Mr. James Ernest Norton, Jr., age 82, of Hoschton, GA, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Mae Hooper Norton; sisters, Maona Turpin, and Gaynell Barrett; brothers, Hubert, Troy, and Claude Norton. Mr. Norton is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy Puett Norton of Hoschton, GA; sons, James Christopher Norton of Conyers, GA, and Jonathan Matthew (Michelle) Norton of Columbus, GA; 4 granddaughters, Rae Norton, Sarah (Chris) Atkins, Anna Norton, and Emma Kate Norton; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr. Norton was born March 16, 1942 in Young Harris, GA. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Vietnam era. He was a 1960 graduate of Towns County High School in Hiawassee, GA and attended Clarkesville Vocational School. Mr. Norton was a member of Ivy Creek Baptist Church, Buford, GA and a member of the Mark Vieira Sunday School Class. He was a retired Service Tech from Sears Roebuck with 35 years of service. Mr. Norton was a member of Legacy 55 Senior Group. He loved Deer hunting, basketball, softball, and was an avid Braves fan. He also loved Gospel music. Mr. Norton loved his granddaughters and supported them anyway he could.
A Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Ivy Creek Baptist Church, Buford, GA, with Dr. Craig Dale officiating and Jonathan Norton delivering the Eulogy. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 13, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, GA, and again on Saturday, December 14, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Ivy Creek Baptist Church, Buford, GA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ivy Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 2344, Buford, GA, 30515.
