James F. "Bud" Odle, age 93, of
Marion, IL passed away peacefully at 8:55 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in the Community Living Center of the Marion Veteran's Hospital of
Marion, IL.
He was born at home in the country on September 21, 1931, in Hamilton County, IL the son of Ted and Edna Matilda Katherine (Senner) Odle.
James attended school in Mcleansboro, IL and was a graduate of Mcleansboro High School Class of 1951. After graduation he answered the call of the nation in 1952, during the time of the Korean War by serving in the United States Army, being stationed in Korea 5 miles from the front line in the supply depot. After his period of faithful service, he was honorably discharged in 1954.
He was united in marriage to Anita May Drummond on June 7, 1957, in the Presbyterian Church, located on North Market Street in Marion and together they shared over 57 years of marriage until her death on December 31, 2014.
His working career was in maintenance for E. Blankenship & Company of Marion for their 16 locations and warehouses for 38 years until his retirement in January of 1997.
He was of the Protestant faith. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, reading and qual hunting. His family was a very important part of his life and always enjoyed the many times they all shared together. The many memories created will now be cherished by those he leaves behind.
He is survived by his son, Ted Odle of
Marion, IL; daughter, Cheryl Morris and husband, Kent of
Marion, IL; two granddaughters, Megan Abbott and husband, Steven of Carbondale, IL and Chelsea McReynolds and husband, Jordan of
Marion, IL; three great grandchildren, Madison Grace and Mason James Abbott and Adaline Claire McReynolds; two sisters, Mary Lou Odle of Anna, IL and Anne Odle of Pfugerville, TX; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Odle of Rio Rancho, NM and Helen Drummond of Marco Island, FL, a host of nieces and nephews, other extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; two sisters, Betty Hutton and Dorothy Brown and two brothers, Bill and George Odle.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street,
Marion, IL.
The visitation will be at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Following the time of visitation the funeral service will at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Matthew Hartline presiding.
Burial will follow next to his wife in Rose Hill Cemetery of
Marion, IL.
Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by members of the Marion VFW Heyde-Pillow Post 1301 Funeral Honors Detail and the United States Army Funeral Honors Detail.
The family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be directed to the Marion VFW Funeral Honors Detail. Checks may be payable to "Marion VFW Heyde-Pillow Post No. 1301" to be used by the funeral honors detail.
