He was a devoted husband and father who cared deeply for his family. He instilled the values of family, honesty, hard work, and faithfulness in his children. He loved taking his family to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina for vacation, a tradition adopted by the entire family. He enjoyed surf fishing with his sons, grandsons, and friends, walking/driving on the beach, and taking his wife to find seashells. He was an avid fan of baseball; he coached baseball teams for many years and made many lasting friends. He was an instant fan of the Washington Nationals and rarely missed a game. He also enjoyed watching football and Nascar. He loved listening to Polka music and going to Polka dances with his wife. He was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church for over 50 years, an Usher, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He worked as a Heavy Construction Superintendent for more than 50 years for JP Smith and Shirley Contracting. He worked on infrastructure throughout the DMV, you would be hard pressed to drive somewhere in the area that he did not affect. Giving back to the community was important to him. He had a positive impact on people in all areas of his life. The world was a better place with him in it and he will be missed. We are comforted knowing that he is with God and reunited with his wife, Joyce, who he dearly missed.
