James Mack Owen, 66, of Tuckasegee, passed away on March 9, 2026. Born in Balsam Grove, NC, he was the son of the late James V. and Pearl Harris Owen. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca Owen.
A member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church, Mack loved people and talking to people. He also enjoyed being able to help others, and he did help anyone who would ask. He was always willing and able.
He enjoyed hunting, after his biscuits and gravy, and no grouse was safe. His greatest love was for his family; especially his granddaughter Makayla.
His survivors include his wife of 45 years, Sherry Owen; their children: Danna Owen of Tuckasegee and Jason (Amanda) Owen of Lake Toxaway; granddaughter Makayla Owen; sisters Laverne Payne (Don) of Franklin and Barbara Stephens (George) of Tuckasegee; and his brothers: William Owen (Jenny) of Franklin, John Owen (Glenda) of Cullowee and Anthony Owen (Michelle) of Cullowee.
Graveside Services for Mack Owen will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Rock Bridge Cemetery in Tuckasegee. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:30 PM at Wolf Creek Baptist Church on Canada Road in Tuckasegee, prior to the service.
