Mr. James Ralph Pilson, Jr., age 82 of Woolwine, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2025 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born June 27, 1943, to James Ralph Pilson Sr. and Carlene Hubbard Pilson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Christy Pilson Stowe; a son, Joseph Edward Verran; and a brother, Lawrence Vinson Pilson.
He graduated from Nashville Auto Diesel College, and retired as a supervisor for VDOT. He was a remarkable man, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His presence was a steady comfort, his wisdom was a guiding light, and his love a gift that shaped our lives in countless ways. He was a man of strength, humility, and deep kindness, whether through quiet gestures or steadfast support, he left a mark on everyone he met. His stories, his laughter, and the lessons he passed on will remain with us forever. Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the time we had. We carry his legacy forward in how we live, love, and support one another-just has he taught us.
Surviving is his wife of 34 years, Brenda Snell Pilson; two daughters, Karen Pilson Bocock (Freddy Spence), and Holly Jean Conner (Bud); one son Mathew James Verran; nine grandchildren, Nicole Bocock, Harley Bocock, Brandon Bocock, Katherine Holt (Matthew), Jessica Conner (Nicholas Gardner), Nick Verran, Glenn Conner (Stephanie), Kelly Stowe, Lee Stowe; eight great-grandchildren, Mariah King, Layla Johnson, Nahla Johnson, Adeline Holt, Avery Gardner, Addison Conner, Eli Conner, Charlotte Conner.
Funeral Service for Mr. Pilson will be held Friday, August 1, 2025, at 3:00 P.M. at Sycamore Baptist Church with Pastor Shaun Draughn officiating. Burial will follow in Sycamore Baptist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
