James Lee Procaccino, known affectionately as Jimmy to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2024, in Elkhart, IN. Born on September 28, 1947, in Fort Wayne, IN, Jimmy was a man whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew him.
Jimmy was the beloved son of the late Joseph Procaccino and AnnaMae (Stoner) Furore. He found his lifelong partner in Suzi (Tannehill) Procaccino, and they were married on November 22, 1989, building a life together filled with love and mutual respect. Their family grew to include six children: Angel (Tim) Perkins, Derek (Claudia) Schmidt, Chris (Amy) Procaccino, T. J. Schmidt, Aimee (Tony) Brinson, and Jeremy (Lisa) Schmidt. The joy of his life was further multiplied by his 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, along with his brother, A.J. Procaccino who will cherish his memory and the wisdom he imparted.
Jimmy graduated from Grandville High School in Grandville, MI, and soon after, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. His dedication to service was a testament to his character, and it was a value he carried throughout his life. After his military service, Jimmy embarked on a career in the trucking industry. He retired from R & L Carriers as a supervisor after 15 years of service, marking a total of 40 years in the industry.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jimmy was a man of many interests. He had a passion for dancing and could often be found on the dance floor, bringing joy and energy to any gathering. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and bowling was another favorite pastime he enjoyed. Both brought him camaraderie and friendly competition. However, above all, Jimmy's family was his first priority. He was a dedicated husband and father, always putting their needs and happiness at the forefront.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place and the family will be holding a Celebration of Life service with full military honors at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Palmer Funeral Homes – Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main St. Mishawaka, IN. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. before services at the funeral home.
