James E. Reuter, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and respected attorney, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, just days shy of his 74th birthday. Born on March 4, 1951, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Pauline (née Frey) and the late William Reuter, Jim was a lifelong resident of Colerain Township except for ten years in Toledo, where he met his wife in law school. Jim lived a life full of adventure, passion, and commitment to his family and profession.
A proud graduate of Xavier University and the University of Toledo College of Law, Jim dedicated his career to the practice of law as a sole practitioner. His sharp intellect and unwavering commitment to his clients earned him the respect of colleagues and adversaries alike. His legal acumen was matched only by his love for his family, particularly his beloved wife, Tobie Braverman of 41 years; his dear mother, Pauline (née Frey) Reuter; his devoted children, Miriam (Lindsay Brown) Reuter, Jeffrey (Megan) Reuter and Rachael (Casey Smith) Reuter; his grandchildren, Audrey Reuter & Baby Boy Smith due May, 2025 and his siblings, Don (Gemma Cabacungan) Reuter and Jennifer (Kathy Stewart) Reuter.
Jim enjoyed traveling to new destinations, skiing, and sailing. A history buff, he found beauty and lessons in the past that he loved to share with others. He was an avid baseball player, cherishing the camaraderie and teamwork that the sport embodies.
In addition to his many passions, Jim had a discerning palate for craft beer, and was at his happiest sitting in the sun with a good IPA in hand. His intellect, wit, laughter and vibrant personality will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
In honoring his wishes, Jim's body will be donated to science, a decision that reflects his desire to give back to the community that shaped him. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Church, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to LaSalle High School, 3091 N. Bend Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45239 or St. Ann Church, 2900 W. Galbraith Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45239.
Though Jim may no longer walk alongside us, his adventurous spirit, boundless enthusiasm, reputation as a consummate gentleman and unwavering kindness will forever be remembered and cherished. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May he rest in peace. Special condolences may be expressed at www.frederickfh.com.
