Brookfield
James A. Rogers (July 24, 1952 – June 10, 2025) passed away unexpectedly at his home, Sweetheart Hill Farm, in Brookfield, New York, at the age of 72. James, lovingly known as Jimmy, was the son of the late Nathan and Bertha (Llewellyn) Rogers, also of Brookfield. Jimmy was married to his beloved wife, Linda (Boss) Rogers, for 33 years.
Jimmy grew up in Brookfield alongside his parents and three siblings: Leila (Muhamad) Shafiq of Kansas, Jayne (David) Brown of Brookfield, and Mark (Mary) Rogers of Brookfield. Together, they enjoyed many weekends on the Rogers and Maine Farm and camping.
Jimmy was a proud graduate of Brookfield Central School, Class of 1970. After graduation, he worked for the Town of Brookfield before enlisting in the United States Army. He served honorably as a Radio Intelligence Operator in Thailand during the Vietnam War, dedicating three years to his country.
Upon returning home, Jimmy worked for Hubble Highway Company, traveling throughout the Northeast installing highway signs. During this time, Jimmy married his first wife, Dorothy, and together they welcomed their daughter, Erin (Timothy) Murray of Holland Patent, NY. Through this union, Jim also gained two stepchildren, Cheri and George Crippen, whom he helped raise.
Jimmy later became a contract hauler for Agway. In 1992, he married his beloved wife, Linda. They bought Sweetheart Hill Farm and raised their three children, Erin Murray, Christina Winfield and Jeffery Judge Jr together.
A hardworking man through and through, Jimmy did whatever was needed to provide for his family. After his time with Agway, he served as the Highway Superintendent for the Town of Plainfield, co-owned and operated The Village Meat Market with Linda, worked as a salesman for Wayne's Welding, and ultimately retired as a bus driver for Brookfield Central School.
Over the years, Jimmy enjoyed hunting, watching wildlife, golfing, clam bakes, painting, riding four wheelers, savoring good food, driving his Mustang, and spending time with friends. However, his greatest joy was, without question, his family.
He would be the first to say that nothing in this world was better than grandkids. His oldest grandchild, Derek Winfield, sparked his deep love for grandbabies-and left him begging for more. In 2014, he finally got his wish and welcomed two more: Sebastian Judge and Addison Murray. In Jimmy's own words, "What could be better?" Around that time, he also gained a bonus grandson, Kolton Oldick, who brought even more laughter and love into his life. Sunday dinners were a treasured tradition in the Rogers home. Whether gathered in the pavilion or around the kitchen table, Sundays were almost always spent together, filling the house with love and laughter. Later, to his delight, Jimmy welcomed another granddaughter, Samantha O'Herien, who will soon marry his grandson Derek-adding even more joy to the family he held so dear.
In 2018, Jimmy proudly celebrated 20 years of sobriety-a milestone that reflected his strength, faith, and perseverance. At the time of his passing, he had been sober for 27 years. Throughout that journey, he supported and encouraged others in their own paths to recovery. Jimmy always credited God as the foundation of his sobriety, and he lived each day with gratitude for the second chance he had been given.
For the past 10 years, Jimmy spent countless hours tending to his bees. You may have heard him proudly say, "We love our bees!" What began as just two hives slowly grew into nearly a hundred, with his family by his side every step of the way-carrying on the traditions of his Uncle Jason, whom Jimmy had admired deeply growing up. Much to his delight, the honey produced by the farm became a favorite among many in the community, a sweet reflection of the care and joy he poured into his beekeeping.
Family and friends are invited to his Calling Hours on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Brookfield, 2416 Beaver Creek Rd, Brookfield, NY 13314 from 1:00 - 3:00 PM, funeral service to follow.
