James (Jim) Francis Rokus, age 79, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023, at his home in Wisconsin Rapids.
A memorial service will be held at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids, WI on Monday, July 17, 2023, at 1:00 pm with Deacon Tom Anderson presiding. Visitation will be held at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids on Monday, July 17, 2023, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Burial and military honors will follow at St. James Cemetery in Vesper, WI.
Jim was born on February 7, 1944, in Wisconsin Rapids, WI to George and Leona (Arnold) Rokus. Jim married Mary Beth Rokus (his "Little Dove") on February 7, 1973. He worked as a meat cutter for many years, providing many area families with his special holiday roasts. Jim served in the National Guard and of was a member of the Babcock American Legion Post 322.
Jim enjoyed the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman making trips to Canada and enjoying many weekends at "The Shack" with his buddies. He and Mary Beth spent summers for the last 40 years camping surrounded by many friends. He was the chef of the Rokus family (much to the gratitude of his wife and children) - a passion he passed on to his kids.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Rokus; sons, Scott (Nancy) Rokus, Christopher (Sarah) Rokus, Kevin (Stacee Reid) Rokus; stepdaughter, Kelly Farrish; grandchildren, Isaac and Sadie Rokus and Izzy Reid; brothers, Howard (Jane) Rokus, Bill (Shirley) Rokus and many extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Josephine Arnold and brother, Richard Rokus.
The family invites friends and family to join in a celebration of Jim's life at Johnny's Bar, Wisconsin Rapids, following Monday's services. As a member of Johnny's "Monday and Thursday Club," Jim always enjoyed raising a glass to his friends.
