On Sunday, May 18, 2025, James Edward Schwartz passed into the arms of his heavenly savior at the age of 74.
He is survived by his three children and their families: Robert Alan Schwartz of Nashville, Tennessee, Mark Edward Schwartz of Orange, California, and Christopher James Schwartz of Houston, Texas, his daughters-in-law Carrie and Heather, and his five grandchildren, Sarah, Claira, Nate, Emerson, and Keaton, and his great granddaughter Saige.He is also survived by his two sisters and a brother.
Jim was a dedicated father, grandfather, and great grandfather, who took great joy in his family.He is preceded by his wife Sandra Elaine (Clauss) Schwartz, his parents Kenneth & Elizabeth (Bertsch) Schwartz, and his grandson Gabriel. He was born in Decatur, Indiana on October 10, 1950, and graduated from South Adams High School in Berne, Indiana in 1968, he later graduated from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana with a B.S. in Chemistry in 1972. He started his career at Dow Chemical company in Midland, Michigan in 1972, moved to Dow's Freeport, Texas location in 1993, and worked for them until his retirement in 2003. In 2007, he moved to San Diego, California, and lived there for fourteen years. In 2021, he moved to Franklin, Tennessee and was a member of Oak Valley Baptist Church.
Jim enjoyed traveling, and visited six continents, including thirty countries and forty-nine states. He achieved a dream of his by attending baseball games in all thirty active major league stadiums. He also enjoyed taking family vacations everywhere from large metropolitan areas to remote national parks In retirement, he enjoyed photography and traveled on numerous club trips. He became a wine enthusiast, taking various wine classes and achieving sommelier certifications. He also was an avid reader and enjoyed reading book clubs in San Diego and Franklin.
Jim was a man of deep faith, active in church throughout his life, singing in the choir, taking missions trips, teaching Sunday school, and volunteering for various church activities. Funeral services for Jim will take place 11 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2025, from the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 West Wheeler Street. Interment will follow in Midland Cemetery. Jim's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until time of the service. There will be a separate memorial event held in Tennessee in the next few weeks.
