Mr. James William "Bill" Scroggins, age 72, of Hanover, Indiana entered this life on January 9, 1950 in Hanover, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late Thomas James and Amanda Francis Dean Scroggins. He resided most all of his life in Hanover and was a 1968 graduate of Southwestern High School where he was known as "Goose". Bill played center on the basketball team and helped win the first turkey shoot-out game. He was a member of the 1960's Southwestern all decade basketball team. He attended various classes and trade schools to further his knowledge and career. On May 31, 1969, Bill was united in marriage to Brenda Carolyn Shepherd at the New Prospect Baptist Church. This happy union of 53 years was blessed with a daughter, Suzanne Marie, and three sons, Billy Joe, Joshua Allen and James Little Thomas. He was a union carpenter for many years and retired as a self employed carpenter. Bill was also a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church near Hanover. He enjoyed being with his family, woodworking, watching basketball and following Cincinnati Reds baseball. Bill died suddenly on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at 9:13 p.m. at the Norton King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana.

Bill will be missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Brenda Carolyn Shepherd Scroggins of Hanover, Indiana; his loving sons, Billy Joe Scroggins of Commiskey, Indiana, Joshua Allen Scroggins and his wife, Jodi of Madison, Indiana, James Little Thomas Scroggins and his wife, Laura of Hanover, Indiana; his loving daughter, Susan Marie Scroggins Peters and her husband, Dustin of Hanover, Indiana; his grandchildren, Brandon, Nathan, Trent, Meghan, Patric, Emily, Maria, Kenny, Nick, Brady, Jalen, Drew, Olivia, Riley, Aurora, and Kennedy; his great grandchildren, Jackson, Carter, and two more on the way; his sister, Nancy Wheeler of Hanover, Indiana; his brothers, Tom Scroggins of Madison, Indiana, Michael Scroggins and his wife, Ria of Madison, Indiana, Richard "Dick" Scroggins and his wife, Shannon of Madison, Indiana; his sister in law, Barbara Wheeler of Harlan, Kentucky; his aunt, Hattie Chitwood of Greenwood, Indiana; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas James Scroggins, died July 1, 1966, his mother, Amanda Francis Dean Scroggins, died September 21, 1979, his brothers, Harry Arthur Gladden, died 1956 and David Bennett, his sister, Dora Ellen "DoDo" Scroggins, died January 4, 2015, his sister in law, Katherine "Kathy" J. Scroggins, died June 22, 2015, his brother in law, John Wheeler, died March 16, 2014, his nephews, Rick Wheeler, died June 27, 2011 and Clint Scroggins, died October 11, 2013, his great niece, Blakely Scroggins, died August 30, 2021, his father in law and mother in law, Little Shepherd, died August 26, 2000 and Cora Shepherd, died October 30, 2014, his granddaughter, Angel Louisa Mae Scroggins, died February 2, 2000, his sister in law, Sharon Bennett.
FUNERAL CEREMONY
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Grandview Memorial Gardens, 9306 North U.S. 421 near Madison, Indiana.

VISITATION
Friends may visit Saturday from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
