James A. Sockwell
"Beloved Deacon, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend"
Deacon James A. Sockwell, 83, of Waterbury, entered into the Gates of Heaven on Monday August 19, 2024 at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Annie M. (Adger) Sockwell.
James was born in Gibsonville, NC on May 9, 1941, a son of the late Emanuel Weldon and Carrie Bell (Burks) Sockwell, Sr.. He settled to Waterbury and graduated from Leavenworth High School and attended Post College. He worked as a Developmental Service Worker 1 for the State of Connecticut at Southbury Training School for 20 years until his retirement in 1997. He was a Deacon and usher at Macedonia-House of Joy and a prayer Intercessor and part of the Prayer Team. Most recently was a member of the Judah Family Christian Center-CT on 55 Store Avenue in Waterbury. James loved to sing and had a wonderful voice and he also played the piano on occasion.
James leaves to honor and cherish his memory; his three daughters, Charisse R. Sockwell of Waterbury, Tamara A. Hays and Donnica A. Harrell of with whom he lived; a brother, Julius Sockwell of Waterbury; a granddaughter, NaTia Harrell of Waterbury; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Joshua T. and his siblings, Willie Sockwell, Elsie Kelly, Edith Dafney, Marion Asberry, John Sockwell, Jr, Shiela Hurdle, Elvira Sockwell, Emanuel Sockwell, Jr., Ethel Sockwell, and Margarite Sockwell.
Arrangements: A funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesady August 28, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterbury. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
