James Albert Stafford "Skip", 83, of Coopersburg, PA, died on Saturday, April 29, 2023.
Born on June 15, 1939, in Middletown, DE, Jim was the son of the late Frances (Cochran) and Albert Isaac Stafford. He graduated from Middletown High School, class of 1957, and from the University of Delaware, class of 1965. Jim proudly served in the US Marine Corp from 1957 to 1961, earning the rank of Corporal. During his time as a Marine, he was honored to serve as an Admiral's Orderly under Rear Admiral J. McN. Taylor aboard the USS Canberra during her round-the-world cruise in 1960. A track-and-field runner at the University of Delaware, Jim held several records for many decades.
Jim had several careers during his life, most notably as a fence contractor, building and installing custom-made fences in the Lehigh Valley. He was an avid reader, coin collector, bird watcher, dog lover and carpenter; he loved to build things and was happiest with a hammer and saw in hand.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sisters, Edith Annette Schreppler and Elizabeth France.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Tricia Cabrey and her husband John of Lansdale, PA; step-granddaughter Amy Sides of Wilmington; nephews George B. Schreppler and his wife Janet of Townsend; Jack Schreppler of Wilmington; Tom Schreppler and his wife Cynthia of Chestertown, MD; James Schreppler of Millsboro; many grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, and great-grandnephews.
Services will be held on Friday, May 5th at 11:00am, with visitation from 10:00 -11:00am, at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown, DE. Interment with military honors will follow in Forest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to a local animal shelter in Jim's memory.
