Dr. James Joseph "Jim" Sullivan, 80, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, in Lilburn, Georgia. Born on April 29, 1945, in Jersey City, New Jersey, he lived a life marked by intellectual achievement, quiet kindness, and a deep devotion to his family.
Jim pursued an impressive academic path that reflected his lifelong passion for learning. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia and went on to complete postdoctoral work at both Harvard University and institutions in California. His dedication to education and research left a lasting impact on those who worked alongside him.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was known for his warm heart and sense of humor. Whether through a witty remark or a helping hand, Jim brought light into the lives of those around him.
He found joy in many hobbies that reflected both his curiosity and creativity. A devoted fan of science fiction-especially B-movies-he delighted in the imaginative worlds they offered. He also enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, and stamp collecting. These pastimes brought him peace and satisfaction throughout his life.
Jim's greatest pride was his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Joann Sullivan; his daughters, Kathryn Sullivan and Emily Sullivan; and his sisters, Maureen Zielinski and Kathleen Niehaus. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Sullivan; and sisters Doreen Magill and Eileen Dye.
Dr. James Joseph Sullivan will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him and inspiration to all who remember his kindness.
